A late #closetlefty No.2 for Nov 3, 2011: Happy Birthday @grettalouw! #conconn
My good friend Gretta has currently locked herself up in a room without daylight in Berlin Wedding and is doing a performance exploring the boundaries of online communication.
“For 10 days the artist will be available 24 hr/day for discussions, emails, comments, or interviews of both private and professional nature for any internet user wishing to take part in the project. All necessary supplies will be stored within the gallery and the windows will be blacked out to ensure that the environment is not normalised by natural light or social rhythms outside, but defined purely by the internet connection to external participants.”
I’ve been in touch via Google+ hangouts and twitter making sure she doesn’t go crazy in there. But so far she seems quite ok and is gaining valuable insights. Looking forward to how she’s transforming her experiences and thoughts into art in that space.
Yesterday was Gretta’s 30th birthday and because I couldn’t give her a proper hug (no access to the artist’s space, just online interaction), I talked to closet lefty and drew her a birthday card with my left hand. Turned out quite okay for day two, I think. And of course a birthday song accompanied by a viola, but that I won’t show ;)
